A South African appeal court changed Oscar Pistorious’s
charge from the lesser charge of culpable homicide to the higher charge of
murder which carries a minimum charge of 15 years.
Oscar shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine ’s Day
2013, killing her. He said he thought she was an intruder but after reading the
whole story I found it difficult to believe his version of events. He claims he
was woken up by a noise in the middle of the night by someone in the toilet and
he shot through the door after yelling to Reeva, who had come over for
valentine’s day, to call the police. My issue with it is this, if I’m in the
house with someone, sleeping in the same bed and then get woken up at night by
a noise my first instinct will be to see if it’s the person in the house with
me that’s making that sound not to shoot through the toilet door repeatedly.
He is currently under house arrest after serving one year of
his original 5 year sentence in jail. He will be sentenced in the New Year and
is expected to return to jail as South African does not make provision for
someone to be placed under house arrest for more than 5 years.
