Musa Gowon,
the son of the former ruler Yakubu Gowon, who has been in jail in California
for the past 22 years is to return to Nigeria to a hero’s welcome. He was
originally sentenced to 40 years for drug-related offences due to his part in a
Colombian cartel but was recently pardoned by president Obama. He is now
awaiting deportation.
The Igbo
Mandate Congress (IMC), which advocate for the Igbo ethnic group in Nigeria (never
heard of them? yeah me either) have
expressed their gratitude to Obama and are arranging a welcome ceremony for the
ex-convict.
What’s the connection between the former
ruler's son and the IMC? I hear you ask? Well it turns out that Musa is,
allegedly, the result of an affair between Yakubu Gowon and a late Edith
Ike-Okongwu, an Igbo woman. The affair apparently ended when Muas's mother
disagreed with her lover's handling of the Biafra war (think this all sounds
too convenient? so do I)
It just
seems to me that the Biafra supporters are getting desperate now and clutching
at straws now trying to get as many big names they can behind their cause even
if they have to use ex-convicts.
