So Charlie Sheen went on the Today Show to publicly discuss the
fact that he is HIV positive. Apparently the 50 year old actor has been
positive for roughly 4 years and a lot of people in his life know about it. He has
struggled with substance abuse and has admitted to soliciting prostitutes in the
past.
The actor has 4 children, 2 daughters and 2 sons and none of his
baby mamas is infected. There is some concern about litigation from former
sexual partners but we will have to wait and see how that plays out. He decided
to come out with this revelation now to stop smear campaign and extortion (this
just shows some people have no scruples).
Meanwhile his ex, Amanda Bruce, a nurse, she regularly had unprotected
sex with the actor during their 8 month
relationship after he tested positive. She did take pre-exposure prophylaxis (a
drug that lowers the risk of her contracting the virus) prior to having sex but
there was still a risk that she could still contract HIV. She was willing to
take the risk because she wanted “that level of intimacy with him”. It is not
clear whether or not she is contracted the disease. If she did she’s keeping
very tight lipped about it.
It was brave of him to put himself out there but he wasn’t left
much of a choice by the vultures who were blackmailing him.
