Busting These Weightloss Myths Will Help You Lose Weight.

Myth: Cardio is best for losing weight.
Running or jogging alone is not enough. Apparently your body only starts to burn fat for energy after the first 30 minutes of exercise where it uses muscle glycogen instead.
Try: Warm up with some cardio, then move on to compound movements that engage more than one muscle such as squats, jumping jacks, side lunges, pike ups and burpees i.e. full body exercises. The more muscles you use the more calories you burn.

Myth: To lose weight you need to cut out all carbohydrates.
Assuming you could do it, completely cutting out carbs I mean, it will leave you tired, weak and very irritable. Tried is once and nearly bit off my hubby's head for the slightest thing.
Try: Eating only unprocessed carbs such as brown rice (this isn't for everyone, hubby hated it and he eats anything, I didn't like it either), sweet potato and green vegetables.

Myth: Sit-ups are the best thing for a toned abdomen.
Sit-ups only workout a very small portion of your core area. You need to target your transverse abdominis (inner abdominals) and oblique (side) muscles as well if you want a toned flat core.
Try: Planking. Lie parallel to the floor and rest on your elbows and toes, then brace your core and hold for 60 seconds. Repeat as many times as you can increasing the number daily as your core gets stronger.

Myth: Exercise alone will help you lose weight
Diet and exercise are equally important on your fat fighting quest.
Try: Pay attention to what you put in your mouth especially what you snack on.

Myth: You can target fat loss
It doesn't matter if it's a muffin top, thunder thighs, saggy bottom or wobbly belly, it's impossible to target fat loss on any part of the body.
Try: High intensity interval training. Studies show that 20 minutes of interval training is the most effective way to burn fat because even hours after your workout you continue to burn fat and calories.

So the moral of this story is to have a balanced diet, pay attention to your snacks and do high intensity interval training that include planking if you want to lose weight and have a toned core.
