5 Unusual Skin-Care Treatments that might actually work for you!

Ok we all want gorgeous skin and I am constantly in pursuit of the best product to unclog pores, reduce shine, keep wrinkles and signs of ageing at bay and basically make my skin soft and glow. I think I am just as adventurous as the next girl when it comes to trying out new products but I draw the line at  some of these:

1. Nightingale Poo
Apparently, the Japanese believe that the nightingale (the bird) poo contains an enzyme that breaks down dead skin cells. It also contains guanine, which is supposed to give the complexion a warm glow. The poo is first UV irradiated to sterilise it and then mixed with rice bran, which exfoliates the skin, before being applied as a face mask. You can’t just get this product in any store but for $180 a spa in New York will give you an hour long bird poo facial.

2. Semen

This, in my opinion, is the most grotesque of the lot. Many women believe that semen has anti-aging benefits. A powerful antioxidant found in semen aptly called spermine is believed to smooth skin and get rid of wrinkles. You can either go DIY with this or there are spas in, yes you guessed, New York offering a semen facial. If you want to go DIY just scoop some seminal fluid into your hand after sex and apply it to your face and neck, leave on for 15mins, wash off with warm water and then apply your usual face cream.

3. Snake Venom
This I found quite interesting and will probably try. Synthesised viper venom is believed to have a Botox-like effect. It is believed to stun the skin in the same way a real snake bite would thereby helping keep it smooth. The amino acids in the venom block nerve signals that tells the muscles to contract which helps stop wrinkles forming. There are lots of products out there that you can use. I will keep you updated on how I get on.

4. Anusol hemorrhoid cream

A lot of women swear by this. Anusol (not the one Anusol HC, which contains hydrocortisone). It shrinks piles and thus ladies use it around the eyes to reduce bags and puffiness. I actually tried this but didn’t notice any difference. But then again I don’t really have bags. There’s no harm in trying it.

5. Milk of Magnesia as an oil control primer

If like me you are plagued by a shine a couple of hours after applying your makeup even after using an oil control primer, then this might be what you need. I must emphasize that this is for occasional use only and not to be used daily. So if you are going for a wedding or an occasion and want your makeup to remain matte and in place all day then definitely try this. Just take two large spoonsful of milk of magnesia and with cosmetic pad (you can use a ball of cotton wool but I found that this shed a bit and left pieces on my face) apply it all over your face or places you shine the most, wait for it to dry and form a white slightly tight mask and then apply your make as normal. You have to apply it quickly as it dries fast.
Do you know any other unusual skin care treatment?
